February 17th, 2006

As one of the people behind Holocene Music, the new record label based out of the amazing Holocene club in Portland, Oregon, I’m super excited to announce the impending arrival of (hold your breath) It’s Importland To Me To Be One Step Further Than One Step Beyond: Holocene Music Remix Compilation Volume 1. This awesome compilation pits Portland, OR electronic musicians against their indie counterpart and includes contributions from Menomena, The Blow, The Thermals, Bobby Birdman, Point Line Plane, Blitzen Trapper, Copy, The Kingdom, Strategy and way way more. Copy remixes Mariah, unveils Mobius Beard

February 16th, 2006

You heard it hear third, folks: our very own Copy has been seen distributing a CD-R containing bad-ass 8bit electro reworkings of the likes of Mariah, Janet, TLC, and Mary J. Check out these posts on Music for Robots and Gorilla vs. Bear for MP3s and more info. You can get your own Copy (ha!) by ordering Copy’s amazing debut full-length Mobius Beard from Audio Dregs and entering the password “Hook Me Up.”

Speaking of Mobius Beard the album is officially released as of this bast Tuesday, February 14th. Keep your eye out for reviews in places like XLR8R and BPM and, uh, let me know if I miss anything, OK?

Copy on 20 Jazz Funk Greats, Dailysonic

January 18th, 2006

One of our very favorite mp3 blogs, 20 Jazz Funk Greats, has an excellent post featuring Copy’s brilliant “It’s a Little Too Late” track.

Sayeth 20JFG:

Right from the start we are witnessing the missing link between Isolee and 8-bit recordings. Early digital lo-fi reminiscent sounds given a serious sense of depth with enough warmth to bring a glow to the coldest winter (which we seem to be having at the back of the closet).

That same track features in a segment on one the net’s best podcasts, Dailysonic, alongside the more subdued “Thanks for the Pen.” Dailysonic’s Adam Varga hits the nail on the head, highlighting Mobius Beard’s sonic restraint and deft melodicism. Click here to listen.

Local Press *heart* Copy

January 11th, 2006

PDX is goin’ nuts for our fave electro-jammer Copy, as evidenced by some very positive press this week. Check out today’s Willamette Week article for a glimpse into how Copy’s emo dance tracks get built, and peep this article for Portland Mercury writer Chas Bowie’s take on Copy’s retro-futurist sound. This is all leading up to the local release party for Mobius Beard this Friday at Holocene. Good times, people, good good times.

UPDATE: And here’s an Oregonian write-up. Hot damn!

Adelaide is now Small Sails

January 11th, 2006

Yes, it’s true, our dudes Adelaide have officially changed their name. Henceforth they shall be referred to as Small Sails. The name change is partially in response to the glut of bands called Adelaide and partly just something that feels right. Also, it’s really annoying Googling Adelaide and getting a bunch of stuff about Australia.

The band is currently finishing up an amazing new album, and will be touring in the spring. Check their new MySpace thingy for sound samples and current local dates.
