BLITZEN TRAPPER
Wild Mountain Nation

If you’ve been getting ready to write off rough-and-ready rock’n’roll for quite some time now, don’t give up hope just yet: Blitzen Trapper might just be able to change your mind with their one-of-a-kind sound, a zany homogenization of low-end garage clatter, bluesy howls, soundtrack filler, prog-dogged synth workouts, acoustic campfire chant-a-longs, and just about anything and everything else you can imagine. Along with the latest Willowz release, Wild Mountain Nation is a resounding argument for the continued relevance of an art form that has been bastardized, watered-down, and slapped in the face more times than the Three Stooges. A down-home feel permeates the world of Wild Mountain Nation no matter which climes its exploring, and every aspect of every song sounds completely necessary, albeit a bit too campy at certain junctions. But hey, that’s half the fun! Saddle up, drop out, tune in, and pay close attention: You’re about to rediscover rawk yet again, and this time it just might stick. (Grant Purdum)
